Hong Kong Taxi

When I first come to Hong Kong in 2007, taxi fare in town started from HK$16. In November 2008, the starting fare revised to HK$18. Now they target to revise it again to HK$20 early next year. Getting a taxi here is very convenience, you can catch a taxi easily along most of the streets. If the light box on top is not lighted up, it means occupied. So looks for those with light up. At taxi stand, people queue up orderly. There are lots of taxi, you don't have to wait much longer to get a taxi. No taxi will refuse to take you. However, during change of shift around 6pm, some taxi might not want to cross harbour. To own a taxi with license it cost about HK$ 3 millions. Most taxi driver rent it at HK$300/shift for about 12 hours. Taking a taxi from airport to Hong Kong Island will cost about HK$250-300 by meter, you also have to pay for the toll which is HK$110.
